Bush Pushes Hard

According to a secret report obtained by the Los Angeles Times, the Bush Administration directed the Pentagon to prepare contingency plans to use nuclear weapons against seven nations. The disclosure led to immediate and widespread warnings that such moves would dangerously destabilize the world by encouraging other nations that they too should develop weapons.

NewsScope readers have been advised that the Bush Administration would become increasingly militant since his progressed Mars is now squaring his Sun (exact on March 15), placed in the twelfth house of secret activity. The influence of Mars leads to aggressive, independent action to achieve goals. Since Mars is activating a twelfth house Sun, much of the action may take place behind the scenes, even if that means doing it in isolation in an increasingly interdependent world.

With transiting Saturn about to square his Mars (exact on March 17, Bush is likely to find strong resistance to many of his efforts. On the Afghanistan front, the Bush Administration began a search-and-attack mission in the 12,000-foot mountains, and finding ferocious resistance from Al Qaeda forces. On the economic front, Bush alienated international trade partners with new steel tariffs.

The intensity of Al Qaeda resistance in the glaciated mountains may mean that Osama Bin Laden is in the area. While his birth data is uncertain, this column favors a March 10, 1957 date. A number of major transits are now hitting that chart, notably transiting Uranus aligning with his ruthless Mars-Pluto square. Then, transiting Saturn is simultaneously squaring his Mercury-Venus conjunction in Pisces, perhaps inspiring his followers onto their suicidal protection.

Saturn and Pluto Assault U.S. Steel

Last week President Bush decided to impose a 30 percent tariff on select steel imports, a move that received wide support from the U.S. steel industry, labor and Congress, but was greeted with howls of protest from the EU and other trading partners. The EU filed a complaint with the WTO over the tariffs, and other nations threatened to open up a global trade war.

Although steel comes under the astrological symbolism of Mars, in the U.S. chart it's also closely associated with Uranus. The world's first billionaire, Andrew Carnegie (November 25, 1835; 6:00 am; Dunfermline, Scotland), built the steel industry by using a new technology called the Bessemer process. Corporations founded via technological innovation are ruled by Uranus. This connection is confirmed by Andrew Carnegie's Mars, located exactly in line with the U.S. Uranus.

These critical zodiacal points, Carnegie's Mars and the U.S. Uranus, are now under celestial assault from the ongoing Saturn-Pluto opposition. As the keyword "restructuring" is frequently used to describe the influence of Saturn and Pluto, this is a perfect fit for what is happening to the U.S. steel industry.

In the last three years (since transiting Pluto has been opposing the U.S. Uranus) at least 31 steel companies have filed for bankruptcy following a wave of cheap steel imports from Asia. Last week transiting Saturn was exactly conjunct the U.S. Uranus as the tiff over tariffs escalated into protectionism and trade war talk. On July 1 transiting Saturn will be conjunct the U.S. Mars, by which time the steel industry will be appearing creaky and in need of deep repairs.

Anthony O'Connell, Catholic Bishop

Last Friday the Roman Catholic Bishop of Palm Beach resigned after admitting that he sexually abused a teenage seminary student 27 years ago. Dozens of Catholic priests out of 47,000 nationwide have been suspended or forced to resign since January when the pedophilia scandal first surfaced in Boston.

Anthony O'Connell was born a traditional Taurus (May 10, 1938; Ireland; time unknown) with his Sun favorably trine spiritually-enhancing Neptune. This combination alone is enough to turn an Irish lad to the Catholic Church as a career path, and with Mercury, Ceres, and Saturn all in Aries, he had the determination and competitive instinct to get to the top of the patriarchal structure.

Unfortunately for the celibate priest, he was also born with a sexually dynamic Venus-Mars conjunction. These two love planets in combination lead to intense efforts to engage in sexual activity. Then with his Sun conjunct Uranus, the planet of experimentation, O'Connell embarked on an "experimental counseling" program for a youth already abused by two other priests. The naked sessions began in 1975 as transiting Neptune opposed his Venus-Mars conjunction.

Now transiting Saturn is nearly conjunct O'Connell's Venus and Mars. Saturn, sometimes known as the Grim Reaper, forces the individual to bear the consequences of his actions, to take responsibility for what has been done. Since O'Connell is a Catholic Bishop, Pope John Paul II must decide whether or not to accept his resignation. Transiting Saturn will arrive on the pedophile's Venus-Mars in mid to late April.
