Mars and Uranus Lead Revolt

Protestors have been gathering in Washington to face ministers from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund in what promises to be a tense confrontation over the coming week. At the same time, many members of the Cuban community in Miami are preparing to physically defend Elian Gonzalez from being forcefully taken by federal marshals.

Astrologically, the outer planet tension between Saturn and Uranus is reaching maximum voltage. These two planets form their exact square on May 13 but are close enough now to generate geopolitical trouble on a large scale. Saturn in Taurus represents tradition, institutional power, and the captains of capitalism, while Uranus in Aquarius seeks to overthrow entrenched, over-confident, and arrogant authority.

Astrologers don't usually characterize planets as being inherently good or evil, but some planets are well known for the traumatic changes they often bring. Saturn and Uranus can both be placed in the troublemaker camp, and this tendency is dynamically exaggerated when they form sharp angles to each other.

The activating agent between these two archetypal enemies is angry Mars. Mars was conjunct Saturn last Friday, and will be squaring Uranus on Wednesday (April 19). If two troublesome planets are extra trouble, you can bet that three troublemakers will create plenty of havoc across the globe. Mars to Uranus (already amped up by its square to Saturn) is explosive, anarchistic, shocking.

Tech Wreck on Wall Street

The technology-heavy NASDAQ suffered its worst loss in its 29-year history last week, with Friday's drop falling through major support levels. Since leading edge technologies have driven the U.S. and global economies, markets across the planet fell in sympathy, with the U.S. stock markets alone losing a breathtaking $2 trillion in value.

Astrologers know that Saturn Returns can be painful, and this is especially true when natal Saturn is in a challenging aspect to another planet. Saturn, the sober planet that teaches us limitations, squares the Sun in the NASDAQ horoscope, a configuration that leads to steady, surefooted growth, but not hyper-inflated bubbles.

Last December transiting Pluto was conjunct NASDAQ's Mars when the market began to jet propel into the stratosphere. Pluto-to-Mars brought extraordinary growth, but led to unsustainable price evaluations. Every 29 years Saturn completes one cycle, ushering in a severe reality check, and this is where the NASDAQ market stands now. Transiting Uranus conjunct the NASDAQ Sun only adds extreme volatility to an unsteady situation.

On Friday the NASDAQ plummeted 355 points during the bruising, painful conjunction of Mars and Saturn. The next dangerous Mars aspect is the square to Uranus which is effective through this Wednesday (April 19). The market might experience a bounce after that, but don't expect any near term recovery since the epochal Jupiter-Saturn-Uranus configuration is still ahead of us. This powerful alignment during May should bring the full global impact of last week's tech wreck.

Sandra Bullock's 28 Days

In her latest movie "28 Days" Sandra Bullock plays a binge drinking, party-girl who doesn't realize she's out of control. To avoid going to jail for one of her escapades she must spend four weeks at Serenity Glen, a mind-body-spirit rehab center. The critics seem split on the worthiness of this flick, with some crediting her bristling performance while others saying she should stick to romantic comedies.

Sandra Bullock was born with her Sun in melodramatic Leo (July 26, 1964; Arlington, VA; time unknown), and her love planets Venus and Mars in witty Gemini. A Venus-Mars conjunction heightens the sexual-erotic powers of attraction, and when in playful Gemini encourages one to flit from one interesting encounter to the next. This combination in an actor's chart is ideal for romantic comedies.

However, Bullock's Sun forms a close aspect to solemn Saturn (an inconjunction or 150 degree aspect), and this link gives her ambition to be recognized as a serious actor. Her Saturn in turn is opposite Uranus which is always challenging her to find the right role. Uranus can be quirky, as in funny, but it can also mean portraying characters in great crisis or in extremely difficult situations.

In the hugely successful "Speed," Bullock played an ordinary citizen forced into a heroic task. This situation was far more engaging than her current role in 28 Days which just isn't traumatic or epochal enough. Saturn-Uranus combinations are intrinsic cosmic partners during historic changes. Check out her under-appreciated serious acting in "In Love and War" for NewsScope's video-pick of the week.
