For many these changes have been stressful, especially in Turkey which was hit by another catastrophic earthquake. Rocket attacks in Pakistan preceded sanctions against Afghanistan for harboring terrorist Osama bin Laden. And economically, the World Trade Organization is taking shape as the NASDAQ hit its tenth new high in eleven days. Of interest to astrologers was the discovery of the earliest known examples of alphabetic writing which was invented near the end of the Age of Taurus about four millennia ago. The new alphabet simplified Egypt’s complex hieroglyphics, allowing for the first time the common workaday people a written language. The breakthrough at the dawning of the Age of Aries was akin to the invention of the printing press, and reduced the control and power of the high priests. The limestone inscriptions found by Egyptologists were shaped after patterns in the sky, especially the zodiac constellations. For example, the first letter of the alphabet, A, is a replica of the Taurus constellation, which at the time was the first sign of the zodiac. >From all we know about the origins of astrology, the alphabet developed concurrently with the horoscope. In this sense, the astrological alphabet is how we understand and describe what is happening around us. Or as Dane Rudhyar once wrote, astrology is the algebra of life. At the dawning of the Age of Aquarius astrology allows the individual to evolve holistically without the mumbo-jumbo of orthodox religions. The wild roller-coaster maneuvers give evidence of a struggle for the controls, perhaps during a skyjacking or suicide attempt. These speculations are consistent with the astrological evidence. The event chart, set for 1:50 am near Nantucket, shows several planets in tight formation squaring (struggling with) the Ascendant (Mercury, Chiron, and Pluto). Asteroid lovers will note that Orpheus and Icarus, each mythologically known for their famous death descents, were also closely involved in this formation. The foundation horoscope for the Age of Flight can be used for tracking developments in aeronautics, including significant space flights, air accidents, and especially sabotage. When the Wright brothers first successfully flew a mechanical plane on December 17, 1903 (at 10:35 am, Kittyhawk, NC), Mars was in Aquarius in the twelfth house. Mars here refers to the immense private research that eventually led to the First Flight, but can also take on the twelfth house’s meaning of secret enemies. Comparing Flight 990’s event chart to the First Flight chart shows the Moon, Chiron, and the Ascendant in exact aspect to this twelfth house Mars. Then, progressing the First Flight chart to the time of the crash corroborates precise activation of this Mars. Especially noteworthy is the position of progressed Juno, which is exactly conjunct Mars. Juno in the secretive twelfth house in partnership with energetic Mars becomes the Goddess of Revenge.
