Military Coup in Pakistan

Last Tuesday the global village experienced its first military coup in a country with nuclear weapons when Pakistan’s Army Chief Musharraf dismissed the democratically elected government. Then, two days later nations around the world expressed their dismay when the U.S. Senate refused to ratify the global nuclear test ban treaty.

From an astrological point of view, Pakistan and India are like Siamese twins separated at birth. They were both created at midnight on August 15, 1947 when the British left. Although their planets are identical, they have different Ascendants and Midheavens (the primary angles) since their horoscopes are located at their respective capitols. While cynics might say that the difference between Pakistan and India is the difference between the Islam and Hindu religions, the astrologer can see how the major angles shaped their destinies.

Pakistan has had four military coups in its history, while India has had none. Pakistan’s chart is dominated by Chiron in the sixth house of the military forces, which exactly squares the Midheaven, or point of destiny. Both countries have a volatile, even virulent military due to an explosive Mars-Uranus conjunction. Last week Pakistan’s Mars-Uranus was activated, while India’s was not (progressed Midheaven exactly square Uranus, and triggered by transiting Mars opposing this same point).

Pakistan’s future looks extremely dangerous, and consequently, so does India’s and everyone else’s. The astrological flags are everywhere (especially progressed Mars, transiting Saturn and Uranus). The EEU has picked up the mantel of global responsibility by proposing economic sanctions on Pakistan’s military rulers.

Stock Market Jitters

The Dow Jones Industrial Averages fell 630 points last week, its greatest weekly decline since October 1989. As stock market watchers know, October tends to be a bearish time, with the greatest historical collapses always happening in this month. The Crash of ‘29 celebrates its 70th anniversary on October 24. And then the crash of 1987 took place on October 19.

Financial astrologers have numerous charts and indicators to follow when judging the stock market. One of the most dangerous and widely recognized indicators is the Saturn-Uranus square that has been in effect throughout 1999. Many analysts feel that we have been in a “stealth bear market” since April because only a few giant corporations have profited, while 84 percent of stocks remain below their 1998 highs.

But why is October always the panic month? Under the assumption that any major correction must have a national impact, the U.S. horoscope provides the answer. In October the Sun, accompanied by Mercury and Venus, pass through the U.S. twelfth house. The twelfth house is where all the collective fears and subconscious impulses are given free expression.

In the crashes of 1929 and 1987 Saturn was in the U.S. second house of financial assets. Saturn’s job is to run a reality check on irrational exuberance. Saturn is not in this sector now, but Pluto is. Pluto has the power to make and destroy vast financial resources. In the near term, Pluto reaches its most threatening position now and through October 25 when it opposes the U.S. Uranus.

Wilt Chamberlain’s 20,000

Basketball great Wilt Chamberlain died last week, leaving a string of career records that may never be broken. Besides his having scored 100 points in a single game and numerous other records, Chamberlain boasts of having had sex with 20,000 women.

The 7’1” NBA Center was born with his Sun in the sign that thrives at being the center of attention, Leo (on August 21, 1936; 11:27 pm; Philadelphia, PA). A comparison between his horoscope and Michael Jordan’s (February 17, 1963; 10:20 am; Brooklyn, NY) reveals some of the astrological factors that contribute to being a superstar. In competitive sports, Mars is the most important planet, and both players have Mars in the dramatic, entertainment sign of Leo. Each Mars has challenging links to several other planets which builds strength, courage, and a strong desire to win.

Both players have physical Taurus as their Rising Sign, implying some pleasure or comfort in the often brutal bumping and grinding in this “non-contact” sport. Both have a Moon-Pluto square which gives an emotional intensity, and an unbeatable edge during the final seconds of play. Both have their Suns precisely lined up with Regulus, known as the Star of Royalty, or the Lion’s Heart.

Chamberlain’s claim to have bedded 20,000 women is undoubtedly an exaggeration. However, the Love planet Venus, the ruler of his chart, is situated in the fifth house of recreational sex, and given plenty of opportunities by a square to Jupiter, the planet of abundance. Also, kind, giving, nurturing Ceres is in highly sexed Scorpio right on his seventh house of partners. With this placement women want to give to him sexually.
