Capitalism On the Run

Wall Street shuddered last week when a leading hedge fund was bailed out by a consortium of high-powered banks. The speculative fund, Long-Term Capital Management, had leveraged $2.2 billion in capital to buy exotic financial transactions worth $1.25 trillion. Their bets in international financial markets went wrong, and then threatened to destabilize the whole system.

Astrologically, really big money is shown by Jupiter-Pluto combinations, especially when linked to the second or eighth houses of money. At the moment transiting Pluto is forming a sharp angle (an inconjunction) to the U.S. Jupiter, located in the eighth house* of capitalism. This celestial climate calls for immediate adjustments within the normally hidden universe of 3,000 global hedge funds. As Pluto completes its link to the U.S. Jupiter over the next week, watch for headline news about reining in America’s plutocracy.

These events fall within the background of this year’s Saturn-Neptune square which has spawned a global condition referred to as Economic Contagion. From Southeast Asia, to Russia, and now on to Brazil, once secure economies are collapsing like a row of dominoes. British Prime Minister Tony Blair and other statesmen are calling for a major reforms in international capitalism to protect economies threatened by international currency speculators, such as Long-Term Capital.

The U.S. horoscope features four planets in the eighth house, including Mars, which governs interest rates. Over the coming week transiting Jupiter is activating America’s Mars, and the Fed is expected to lower interest rates to stimulate economic growth, and hopefully fend off what economists are calling the worst international financial crisis in 50 years.

Hillary on the Stump

Henry Hyde, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, announced his that committee will vote October 5 or 6 to launch a formal impeachment inquiry against Clinton. Then the House will likely approve the measure on October 9-10. These exact dates were given a week ago in this column, perhaps demonstrating that Rep. Hyde follows astrology.

Meanwhile, the First Lady was on the stump, supporting Democratic candidates in five states who support a child-care agenda. Saturn in early Taurus has been opposing her intense Scorpio Sun during most of 1998, giving her a major headache in the relationship department. But this same Saturn is near her Ceres, helping to define and promote all Ceres affairs, which in essence is the child-care agenda. Saturn, if nothing else, is practical and realistic.

Astrologers will want to watch Hillary closely over the next year since her progressed Sun is opposing Uranus. This combination is well-known for inspiring a highly independent lifestyle, frequently disrupting or even ending committed relationships. Mrs. Clinton’s favorite role model is Eleanor Roosevelt, FDR’s politically astute, cause-oriented wife.

Most of the global village is baffled over why America’s political machinery is putting all geopolitical crises on the backburner to address the President’s adulterous affair. Perhaps no one better than Hillary understands that this reflects the growing status of women in our times.

FloJo’s Last Race

Track star Florence Griffith Joyner died last Monday, an apparent victim of a heart seizure. FloJo, as she was popularly known, won three phenomenal Gold medals in the 1988 Olympics, and dazzled the public with her sexy style.

FloJo was born a trendy, sporty Sagittarian (December 21, 1959 at 12:11 am, Los Angeles, CA). Sagittarians love speed, and with four planets in Sagittarius, including athletic Mars and Jupiter, making a career out of going fast was a natural.

FloJo also had Pallas Athene in Sagittarius, the asteroid associated with designing and pattern recognition. She enjoyed designing her own clothes, and wore racing suits with hoods and bikini bottoms, with one leg, two legs and see-through lace. She captivated cameras with her 6-inch-long fingernails polished in various bright colors and designs.

FloJo’s record-breaking times in the 1988 Olympics was marred by accusations that her performance was drug-enhanced. In her natal chart, ambitious Saturn is closely connected to glamorous, other-worldly Neptune. The valleys and troughs of her career (Saturn) were always accompanied by uncertainty (Neptune). At the time of her 1988 races, Neptune (the natural ruler of drugs) in her natal horoscope and by transit was very active.

FloJo retired unexpectedly and at the height of her racing career on February 25, 1989 when Saturn was returning to its natal position, accompanied by Neptune. Last week she died during the next turn of the Saturn-Neptune cycle, as the two planets were square each other.
