Russian Economy Verges on Collapse
Last week Russian President Boris Yeltsin made an
unprecedented number of calls to foreign heads of state
pleading for $billions to supplement expected IMF loans.
The Russian stock market has lost 65 percent of its value
since last October, and millions of state employed workers
have gone unpaid in months.
Yeltsin, with transiting Uranus now on his Sun, is in crisis
mode. He wants at least $20 billion to save Russia’s
currency, the ruble, from devaluation. The IMF has offered
$5.6 billion. The problem Russia is facing now centers on
social unrest, as pro-democracy interests fear extremist
factions will exploit the economic turmoil.
Russia’s horoscope (November 8, 1917; 2:12 am;
Petrograd) is currently under stress from transiting Pluto’s
passage over the fourth house cusp, the very foundation of
the chart. Pluto here leads to decay, corruption, and
disintegration, and has another year or so to go before
completing this cycle.
This coming week transiting Saturn trines Russia’s Mars,
so that the state will likely get enough funds to keep it
solvent. Mars is the ruler of Russia’s eighth house of debt,
and transiting Saturn has recently entered the ninth house
of foreign sources. The short term prognosis for Russia
looks safe; the picture over the next year, however, looks
extremely dangerous.
The Bolshevik Revolution horoscope for Russia is
pinpointing the current efforts to sell its state-run oil
behemoths (progressed Sun opposite Neptune). This
coming week the progressed Midheaven is exactly conjunct
Russia’s twelfth house Leo Moon, which reflects the
people’s deeply ingrained loyalty to a monarch. On July 17,
after 80 years of callous indifference, a funeral for Czar
Nicholas II and his family will be conducted in a lavish,
Yeltsin-sanctioned ceremony.
Chiron Update
The main news from Washington featured everything
discussed about Chiron last week. Chiron’s symbolism
covers health care, sex scandal, and military developments.
In the Wounded President Department, Clinton lost a key
court battle with his nemesis Kenneth Starr. Now the
President’s Secret Service has been ordered to testify about
Monica Lewinski’s time spent alone in the Oval Office.
Meanwhile, Lewinski will testify in Maryland about her
“friend” Linda Tripp and the secret tape recordings.
Health Care issues have suddenly appeared on the political
radar screen. Congress has realized that the HMO’s are
setting unwelcome restrictions on what is covered by
insurance costs. Talking heads agree that Congress will
likely come up with a plan, taking up one of the very few
issues before the term ends.
On the military front, American diplomats met with NATO
allies to discuss the worsening situation in
Serbia-controlled Kosovo. Then, leading a flurry of military
service stories, Robert Ingram was awarded the Medal of
Honor for extraordinary courage and heroism, 30 years
after the event.
Also, the remains of a soldier buried in the Tomb of the
Unknowns has been identified by using an advanced DNA
technology. And two marines who piloted a jet that struck a
gondola cable in Italy and killed 20 people, are now being
court-martialed for negligent homicide. Watch over the
next week for more Chiron manifestations in the news....
Mark McGwire’s Home Run Chase
Baseball phenomenon Mark McGwire is on track this year
to break the all-time home run record of 61, set by Roger
Maris in 1961. Ken Griffey Jr. and Sammy Soso are not far
behind McGwire, as the chase is attracting a resurgence in
baseball popularity and massive media coverage.
McGwire (b. October 1, 1963) has a powerfully situated
Mars in his horoscope, the planet bestowing physical
strength and the competitive edge. In Scorpio, McGwire’s
Mars receives a natural intensity, with single-minded focus
that can smash a 97 mph pitch 545 feet into the upper
decks. This power quotient is amplified by a close,
favorable sextile to Pluto in precise Virgo.
Besides overwhelming force, McGwire’s Mars is enhanced

the record.
