Corporate America Under Fire

Corporations that sell defective products and conspire to hide the damage received stunning setbacks last week. On Wednesday for the first time a jury found in favor of a group of smokers against Big Tobacco in a Florida class action lawsuit. Then two days later a Los Angeles jury ordered General Motors to pay a record $4.9 billion to six people injured in a car collision.

The coincidence of these huge legal decisions favoring consumers comes for a confluence of astrological indicators. The background cosmic vibration for these settlements is the ongoing Saturn-Uranus square. As these two planets complete their square they are simultaneously linking with the U.S. Midheaven, thereby activating major national developments.

The progressed U.S. horoscope fills in the details of how these developments will unfold. Progressions* are based on the esoteric formula that one day is equivalent to one year, and using this technique the astrologer can make more accurate political and economic forecasts. Because of its relatively fast motion, the progressed Moon is the key timer, especially when it forms exact aspects to other natal planets.

The U.S. progressed Moon is currently in the sixth house of health and military service. Last week the progressed Moon formed an exact square to Pluto in Capricorn, which represents the political and financial power of Big Business. This aspect was exact on the day that the Florida jury handed down its verdict.

This astrological climate fostered other health news last week. President Clinton is stumping for a Patient Bill of Rights as a top priority for the national agenda. Both parties in Congress have proposed their own HMO reform bills, and a stunning medical breakthrough in treating Alzheimer’s was announced by a California biotech company.

Women’s Soccer Scores a Gooaaalllllll!

A Sunday crowd of 90,000 at Pasadena’s Rosebowl went into a frenzy when Brandi Chastain converted her penalty kick, giving the United States a 5-4 win over the Chinese team in the World Cup finals. Well before the U.S. team scored the winning shot they had already captured the hearts of women across the country, inspiring new passion and dedication for a game generally shunned by American men.

Astrologically, women’s teams can be represented by the Moon (women) in Aquarius (teams). The U.S. horoscope features an Aquarius Moon, which not surprisingly is being triggered now by a major planetary progression. The progressed Sun is in Aquarius, and only one degree from being exactly conjunct the Aquarius Moon.

Transiting Saturn squaring Uranus is the planetary pressure leading up to this thrilling match. Uranus in Aquarius resonates with the U.S. progressed Sun and natal Moon, while Saturn in Taurus is in the seventh house of opponents. China’s rivalry can be seen here as having larger political message than the context of the sport.

Armchair astrologers might note that men soccer players are from Mars and women soccer players are from Venus. When a male soccer player scores a goal, he struts into the limelight and teammates must catch up to join in the celebrations. When a woman kicks a goal, she rushes toward her teammates, knowing that the scoring was a team effort. Women coaches work toward a touchy-feely aspect of shared success.

Hillary Clinton in New York

The First Lady was in upstate New York last week embarking on what she calls her “Listening Tour.” Hillary Clinton began listening to New Yorkers one day after officially opening an exploratory committee for her run to replace the retiring Senator Daniel Moynihan.

Hillary Rodham Clinton was born in the warrior sign of Scorpio (on October 26, 1947; 8:00 pm; Chicago, IL). With four planets in Scorpio squaring three in Leo, Ms. Clinton has an unusually tense horoscope. Such powerful dynamics point to a life of challenges, but with a Mars-Pluto conjunction in Leo, she is also blessed with an abundance of courage.

The current transiting square between Saturn and Uranus is now awakening this Leo-Scorpio configuration, and corresponding precisely to her Senate run. The challenge from N.Y. Mayor Rudolph Giuliani is expected to be turbulent. Giuliani announced that he’s going to Arkansas to conduct a fundraiser, underscoring Ms. Clinton’s status as a carpetbagger.

Hillary Clinton should do very well. Her progressed Sun is opposing Uranus, promising to bring her tremendous celebrity and fame. Meanwhile, in the U.S. horoscope the progressed Sun is nearly conjunct the natal Moon, kicking off a new era of women in American politics. Soccer Moms everywhere tend to support Hillary, so those suffering from Clinton fatigue should brace themselves for the second half.
