Money, Money, Money
Breaking all records for gathering financial contributions,
George W. Bush was nearly crowned President last week,
16 months before the actual election. Bush’s campaign
chest hit $36 million, more than the other nine Republican
challengers combined, and nearly twice the amount
gathered by the leading Democrat Al Gore.
Astrologically, big money was bound to be the big story
last week as Jupiter, the planet of affluence, entered the
money sign of Taurus. Many of the week’s top news items
were about financial records, including Bill Clinton’s
announcement that the national debt could be erased within
15 years due to a $1 trillion surplus accumulating in the
annual budget process.
Elsewhere, an Ohio woman won a $150 million lottery
jackpot, the Labor department reported that the economy
added 268,000 jobs last month, and the stock market hit
new record highs. The financial benefits attributed to
Jupiter in Taurus may seem exaggerated, but Jupiter’s
influence is dramatically heightened by its square to
Neptune.
Neptune’s nebulous, blissful aura recognizes no limits, and
as the planet of hope passes through the people’s sign of
Aquarius, utopian visions take hold. When Neptune
modifies the abundance of Jupiter in Taurus, widespread
prosperity becomes an achievable goal. Neptune’s
influence declines sharply after these two planets complete
their square on July 19 when reality sets in, and any
hyper-inflated index drops suddenly.
The Eagle has Landed
Anyone who wants a job in the United States can find one.
The American stock markets have increased over 20
percent in value for an unprecedented five years in a row.
The technology revolution in computers and
telecommunications is transforming the entire planet, and
the Pentagon has learned how to wage successful warfare
from the air.
Reflecting the re-birth of American power, President
Clinton announced last week that the Bald Eagle will be
removed from the Endangered Species list. The Bald Eagle
has been the most enduring symbol of national strength
since it was used on the Great Seal in 1782. However, by
1963 only a few hundred nesting pairs could be found in
the lower 48 states. Not until the toxic pesticide DDT was
banned in 1972 did the Eagle begin returning from near
extinction to healthy populations.
The return of the Eagle coincides with the return of Mars
into Scorpio following a two-month retrograde passage
through Libra. The Eagle is the natural symbol for Scorpio,
and Mars dignifies Scorpio by demonstrating this sign’s
strength and lofty purpose. The Eagle is sacred to Native
Americans which more than any other ethnic group
recognize the value of living in harmony with the Earth.
The return of the Eagle is a direct result of ecological
awareness and wise action.
The astrologer who uses Scorpio Rising for the U.S.
horoscope recognizes in Americans the acquisitive, even
greedy clutching as symbolized by the lowly scorpion. But
the astrologer also recognizes the Eagle as the ruler of
Scorpio, along with its soaring flight next to the Great
Spirit.
Bill Bradley Gets Noticed
With George W. Bush consistently trouncing Al Gore in the
polls, Democrats have begun to consider Bill Bradley’s
chances of winning the Presidential contest. Al Gore’s
campaign chest stands at $18 million, and he remains the
first choice, but Bradley has collected $11 million and
figures he will get to $20 million, or enough to be a worthy
contender.
Bradley was born two days after Mick Jagger on July 28,
1943 (at 11:37 am; St. Louis, MO). Like Jagger, he has a
Sun-Jupiter-Pluto triple conjunction in Leo, an extremely
fortuitous combination that favors success, recognition, and
wealth. Bradley’s Moon in Gemini is conjunct a sober
Saturn, giving him a seriousness and intellectual focus that
is missing in Jagger’s horoscope.
Bradley’s potential nomination to the top spot can be seen
in his natal Mercury, which is conjunct the U.S. Midheaven
and the Democratic Party’s Uranus.* His Mercury is given
forcefulness and financial shrewdness through the square to
Mars in Taurus. This combination is now being activated
by the current Saturn-Uranus square, indicating that he can
benefit from the sudden change of fortunes symbolized by
this outer planet dynamic.
Can Bradley surpass Gore as the Democrats’ top choice?
Both Bradley and Gore are considerably weakened by
transiting Neptune, which is opposite Bradley’s Sun and
Gore’s Ascendant. Neither of these candidates fits their
party’s horoscope as neatly as Bush’s. Bradley’s progressed
Moon has just arrived at his Midheaven, and this pushes
him into the limelight, but his progressed Mercury and
Venus are both retrograde, and represent cosmic burdens in
a national campaign.
