The Gift of the Goddess (Part II)

Following fast-paced negotiations between American, Russian, Finnish, and Yugoslavian diplomats, the military conflict in the Balkans reached a stunning turn-around last week. The international community breathed a collective sigh of relief in anticipation of near universal acceptance of NATO’s five point peace plan.

Astrologically, the cessation of hostilities and peace agreement arrived precisely as Mars turned direct in the diplomatic sign of Libra. Mars in Libra naturally fosters negotiations, but the celestial location of Mars at its stationary point aligned with the extremely favorable first-magnitude star known as Spica. Regular NewsScope readers were assessed of the likely timing and benefits associated with this Mars-Spica combination two weeks ago.

To be sure, many difficulties lie ahead, but the long term benefits to the global community are substantial. For the first time since World War II German military forces were deployed, and not to foment German nationalism but international cooperation. The benefits of Mars-Spica were not isolated to the European theater, but represented a cosmic wave of reconciliation.

In South Africa Nelson Mandela guided a successful election process, securing the transition from apartheid to a multi-racial culture. Israeli troops withdrew from South Lebanon, indicating for the first time that a settlement with Syria is possible and on track. Talks began between South and North Korea for the first time in five years. Spica, as the cosmic symbol for the Goddess in all her splendor and magnificence, was in good form last week.

NATO and the Refugees

Ultimately, and to the surprise of Washington’s talking heads, NATO’s air campaign proved to be a successful strategy, which reached a climactic turning point last week when 50,000 ground troops were finally stationed in the region. Displaying total control over the air space, NATO demonstrated the latest technology in surgical bombing tactics, marred only by a several widely reported civilian casualties. Bombing was the easy part; now comes phase two where the refugees must be safely returned to Kosovo.

NATO’s horoscope (April 4, 1949; 4:52 pm; Washington D.C.) reflects the pending difficulties with the humanitarian crisis. NATO’s Ceres-Pluto conjunction in Leo is the planetary symbolism associated with masses of needy people, the refugees. Saturn by transit is now forming an exact square to NATO’s Ceres, reflecting the immediate need for a structured plan to resolve the situation.

Over the six weeks transiting Saturn and Uranus are forming a square, a tense configuration historically associated with international tensions. This Saturn-Uranus aspect hits NATO’s Ceres-Pluto conjunction exactly, indicating that the refugee situation will be a sticking point for some time to come. The Saturn-Uranus square also hits key planets in the horoscopes of Russia, the United States, and the United Nations.

Expect the U.S. to maintain a forceful, unrelenting posture as both transiting Mars and Jupiter are heading for the U.S. Pluto. Jupiter squares the U.S. Pluto on June 14, and Mars follows with its own square on June 26. These can be arrogant, over-zealous contacts. Diplomatically, Secretary of Defense Cohen set the proper tone of humility in victory by focusing on the plight of the refugees. This American Warrior’s credo was first established by General MacArthur in Japan.

Mirjana Markovic, Serbia’s Dragon Lady

Slobodan Milosevic has only one close friend and companion in the world, his wife Mirjana Markovic. Many observers say that she is the power behind the throne, that her will and forcefulness is what urges the Yugoslavian President onward. Markovic is also renown for penning a newspaper column popularly referred to as “The Horoscope.”

Mira Markovic was born a on July 10, 1942 (time unknown) and reigns as matriarch of the most famous dysfunctional family in Europe. Her Moon and four other planets are in intellectual, media-savvy Gemini, so she naturally gravitated toward writing, professorship, and owning Belgrade’s most powerful newspapers and television stations.

With her Mercury, the ruler of writing and communications, squaring Neptune, Markovic is susceptible to faulty logic and wishful thinking. This combination also encourages reliance on psychic or paranormal experiences. Her column dubbed The Horoscope is not astrology-based, but makes chatty complaints about Milosevic’s foes who inevitably disappear or are abruptly removed from office. Is this being psychic, or nefarious?

Markovic has a Mars-Chiron conjunction in Leo, which resonates strongly with Serbia’s Mars in Leo square Chiron. This combination reflects her immense pride in personal strength, and woundedness over weakness for which she over-compensates. Her unrealistic dreams and aspirations for a greater Serbia have now collapsed under the influence of the transiting Saturn-Uranus square. Her personal authority is also being undermined and essentially destroyed now as transiting Pluto over the next few months opposes her Saturn.
