Ceres, the Caretaker
The most recent development in the Kosovo crisis features
an escalating refugee crisis, with Kosovar Albanians
flooding across the Kosovo border at the rate of 1,000 per
hour. The U.S. is playing its part by preparing a safe haven
at Fort Dix for 20,000 of these refugees who will eventually
be staying as temporary guests in American homes.
Astrologically, the largest and most important of the four
major asteroids is Ceres, and she governs protection of the
weak. Ceres in the U.S. horoscope is located in sympathetic
Pisces, and is harmoniously linked to the Scorpio
Ascendant. Ceres is now being challenged (squared) by
transiting Pluto, which governs mass movements of people,
and mass psychology.
The favorable link between Ceres and the U.S. Ascendant
can be seen in the American identity with the Statue of
Liberty, and its poetic words which greeted European
refugees and immigrants arriving in New York Harbor:
“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses,
yearning to breathe free.”
In terms of Pluto’s impact on mass psychology, Americans
are wondering how to better manage their children. Ceres
in the U.S. horoscope is located in the fifth house of Youth,
and so her role in the parent-child relationship is now
taking on heightened importance. Should parents follow
Dr. Laura Schlesinger’s advice and snoop on their teens if
they have any suspicions? Or is Dear Abby’s Teenage Bill
of Rights that favors Privacy the best way to go?
Vesta Rising
When Ceres is prominent in the teen’s chart, his parents
tend to be very tolerant and enabling. As discussed here last
week, the two teens who massacred their fellow students
both had Ceres strongly placed in their natal horoscopes.
We now have precise birth data on these two.**
Dylan Klebold was born on September 11, 1981 at 9:11 am
in Denver, Colorado. This gives him the asteroid Vesta
precisely conjunct his Libra Ascendant, a placement which
because of its prominent position totally dominates his
personality.
Vesta in the natal horoscope describes the devoted
participant in a sacred cause, special-interest group, or
secret society. Vesta is most closely associated with the
sign Virgo, and Virgo’s tendency to value service to others
above personal ego needs.
The elevated position of the warrior planet Mars in
Klebold’s chart points to a respect and admiration for
militant causes. In a healthy individual, this tendency
would naturally lead to service in the armed forces. At the
time of the shooting, Klebold was under severe emotional
stress (transiting Uranus conjunct, and progressed Mars
opposite his Aquarius Moon).
The location of Klebold’s progressed Moon reveals much
about his mental state. At the time of the incident his
progressed Moon was just emerging from the twelfth house
of psychological darkness. He was now stepping forward
with his personal statement about who he was and what
was important in his life, all as his progressed Moon was
conjunct Vesta.
Juno’s Revenge
Eric Harris, according to recently discovered birth data,
was born on April 9, 1981 at 9:37 pm in Plattsburgh, NY.
Like Klebold, the secret society asteroid Vesta is strongly
placed in his horoscope by being exactly square his
Ascendant. Vesta takes on extra significance in this
location, and also a very radical nature by squaring Uranus,
located right on the Ascendant. With Uranus conjunct his
Ascendant, Harris was bound to be different.
Another parallel between Harris and Klebold is that they
both have Juno in Scorpio. Juno is known primarily as the
marriage asteroid, but she demands to be treated fairly or
she gets very angry and vengeful. Thus, from ancient
mythology Juno is also known as the Storm Goddess, and
any time she is under stress in the natal horoscope, she can
create a psychological climate of fanatic hostility. This
situation is aggravated to the extreme by Juno’s placement
in intense Scorpio.
Klebold’s aggressive, retaliatory behavior can be seen as a
natal tendency with his Mars-Juno square. During the
shooting, Harris’s progressed Mars was exactly opposite his
Juno; it’s the closest aspect in his chart at the time, and
therefore the most descriptive of what he was doing. He
was getting revenge. Juno is located in his 11th house of
peer groups, and she was very, very angry.
Harris and Klebold were responding to an American
culture which for the last year has dwelled compulsively on
Bill Clinton’s affair with Monica Lewinski. Bill Clinton’s
horoscope shows an identical progressed Mars-Juno
combination in Scorpio, and also squaring his natal Pluto.
The older and wiser Clinton knows personally the seething
intensity of these boys’ feelings, and is poising himself to
moderate the Youth-Violence conference on May 10.
