Showdown with Iraq
Iraqi President Saddam Hussein made his most direct threat
last week to provoke another crisis over arms inspections
unless the economic embargo is lifted. American officials
indicated that the sanctions would stay in place as long as
Iraq flouts United Nations resolutions.
Astrologically, the next few weeks are filled with red flags.
Saddam made his threat as Mars entered the U.S. seventh
house* of open enemies (and was conjunct his own
Sun-Uranus). Both France and Russia are willing to side
with Iraq for economic reasons, pointing to growing
tensions with partners.
Mars continues to lead into trouble with a highly explosive,
volatile square to Uranus, exact this Wednesday (April 29
at 10:13 PM EDT). Besides the trouble with Iraq, these
Mars-Uranus connections can lead to terrorist actions,
industrial or mechanical accidents, and a general climate of
extreme impatience amplified by the thrill of danger.
Watch for disrupted diplomatic developments, most likely
centering around the United Nations, around Tuesday
through Thursday. Mars goes on to make a critical square
to the U.S. Midheaven on May 4 when incidents of
violence, military action, or other major confrontation will
likely headline the news.
What makes Saddam’s current challenge noteworthy is
Saturn’s cyclical activation of the U.S. Pluto. Exactly one
quarter cycle ago (when Saturn was conjunct the U.S.
Pluto), George Bush launched Operation Desert Storm.
Now, Saturn is about to square the U.S. Pluto, indicating
the full weight of American prestige and power is poised
for action. This aspect becomes exact on May 17, but the
tension should become palpable well before then.
Ancient Civilizations on Mars
Over the past week excitement has reached a feverish pitch
over possible photographic evidence of ancient
civilizations on Mars.
NASA’s Orbiter Camera on the Mars
Global Surveyor spacecraft has just successfully acquired
several high resolution images of the "Face on Mars"
feature in the Cydonia region.
These developments are unfolding during heightened Mars
transits (see above), and the retrograde station of Neptune
in Aquarius. Neptune’s astrological momentum is now
climaxing, ushering in a week of fascination with the
bizarre, unusual, innovative, and mysterious. Many
astrologers believe that the Age of Aquarius commenced
when Neptune entered Aquarius on January 29.
As Neptune turns retrograde, psychics are hearing advice
messages from Atlantis or the Pleiades, while Edgar Cayce
and Nostradamus predictions gain in popularity, and
numerous UFO sightings are reported. Although NASA
officials deny the existence of any ancient civilization
artifacts on Mars, popular lecturer Richard Hoagland sees
geometric ruins akin to
Egypt’s pyramids.
The full impact of discovering ancient artifacts on Mars
would completely morph our global village’s sciences and
religions. The theory of evolution and the Garden of Eden
myth would be replaced by a new insight: that humanity
was a cloning experiment conducted by ETs who used
Mars as an unsuccessful testing area, or simply a
near-Earth observation booth.
Paul McCartney’s Love Song
Linda McCartney, the enduring inspiration for Paul
McCartney’s love songs, died a week ago of breast cancer.
Linda and Paul were renowned for their unusually idyllic
marriage, which began exactly one Saturn cycle ago on
March 11, 1969.
Ms. McCartney was a relationship genius with her Sun in
other-oriented Libra (b. September 24, 1941), and
sensitized by a conjunction with a visually perceptive
Neptune. Neptune is the natural ruler of photography,
fashion, and music - all of which became Linda
McCartney’s life-long motifs. Her career began with classic
photos of 1960s rock legends such as Jimi Hendrix, the
Grateful Dead, the Doors, and of course, the Beatles.
McCartney, as an outer-planet person (Uranus, Neptune,
and Pluto all closely aspecting her Sun), was destined to
carry out a mythic, cultural-shaping purpose. She is further
identified with the Cosmic Mother role (Sun square Ceres)
which led her to champion animal rights and vegetarian
causes. Paul McCartney, with Ceres in his seventh house of
partnerships, was looking for a Ceres archetype to play his
wife.
Beneath the charm and sweetness of Linda and Paul’s
marriage, both of these two had to deal with some intense,
bitter relationships. Since Libras in general avoid anger and
anything that might ruin a nice day, hostilities and
unresolved wounded feelings are repressed. In Linda’s
case, with both Venus and the Moon in Scorpio (square
Chiron), the underlying seething emotions had no outlet,
perhaps leaving her physically susceptible to cancer. She
died as transiting Uranus was activating her exact
Venus-Chiron square.
