Juno and Jonesboro
Last Tuesday at 12:41 PM a 13-year-old boy and his
11-year-old cousin lured classmates out of school with a
false fire alarm, then mowed them down with gunfire. The
elder boy had warned friends ''he had a lot of killing to do''
after he was jilted by a girl.
The astrological trigger for this horrific event was a
Mercury-Saturn conjunction at 20 degrees Aries, an
extremely dangerous zodiacal zone for the United States. In
the Scorpio Rising USA horoscope*, Juno, the Avenging
Goddess, is located at 20 degrees Libra in the twelfth house
of secret enemies. The entire symbolic framework for this
event was described in last week’s NewsScope, including
the revenge motive for the killings.
The potential for another, equally horrific shooting incident
remains high over the next week. Mercury, now in
retrograde motion, will meet up with Mars at 20 degrees
Aries on Tuesday (9:34 AM EST), marking a day of trouble
both domestically, and wherever American military
operations are on the ground.
Then early on Thursday (2:30 AM EST) Mars joins up with
Saturn, closing the window of potential violence in this
lethal zodiac zone. Mars and Saturn together is always a
significant turning point in geopolitical affairs. This time
these two meet in aggressive Aries, further highlighting
military command and control situations, such as the
tension in Iraq and Kosovo. In Washington, some
Republicans are gathering forces (Mars) to surmount the
obstacle (Saturn) of Clinton’s public approval ratings, and
begin impeachment hearings.
Titanic Wins Eleven Oscars
Titanic director James Cameron, in accepting another
Oscar for the all-time blockbuster hit, buoyantly shouted
out "I'm the King of the world!" In a more reflective mood,
Cameron described the movie's success to the allegorical
message inherent in the tragic story: the arrogance of power
accompanying technological superiority.
The Titanic as allegory fits the astrological associations
magnificently. The world's most famous ghost ship was
discovered one Uranus cycle after the actual event on April
14, 1912. Uranus in Aquarius both then and now focuses on
the relationships between the social classes.
In the current geopolitical structure, the United States itself
can be compared to the Titanic. The $6 trillion U.S.
economy forges ahead without regard to smaller ships of
state, warnings of ecological disaster, or the welfare of
third class global citizens. Uranus in Aquarius is the wake
up call. The echoes from the past are exquisitely
personified in the film version, and astrologically reflected
in the cycles of the planets.
The Oscars were handed out as transiting Mercury and
Saturn were passing over the fateful North Node from the
event chart of the Titanic's sinking. In that event chart the
North Node adversely aspects Neptune, which perfectly
describes the fateful tragedy. Astrologically, Neptune is the
King of the Sea, and also rules film, dreams, and drowning.
The Titanic was known as the Ship of Dreams.
Leo DiCaprio and Old Money
Leo DiCaprio, as the passionate wanderer Jack Dawson,
leans over the magnificent bow of the Titanic and shouts
"I'm the King of the World." The strange correspondence
between DiCaprio's horoscope (b. November 11, 1974;
2:47 AM PST; Los Angeles) and the chart set for the
sinking of the Titanic creates the emotional doorway for
audiences around the world to fully experience this epic
tragedy.
DiCaprio's Scorpio Sun is conjunct Venus, giving him an
abundance of charm, and a profound, even heroic interest
in romance. In his personal life he has skyrocketed from a
teenage heartthrob to an international filmstar. In the
Titanic, he played artist Jack Dawson, whose love for the
aristocratic Rose highlighted the bitter class struggle of that
era.
DiCaprio's Scorpio Sun happens to be exactly opposite
Saturn from the chart of the Titanic's sinking. Saturn in
Taurus can be described as "old money," and represents the
close-knit society formed around the captains of industry,
and also referred to in the movie as the Masters of the
World.
DiCaprio's role was to free Rose from the rigid social
structures of the upper class. Just as his Sun opposes the
Titanic's Saturn, DiCaprio (Dawson) opposes the arrogance
and exclusiveness of Old Money.
In this mission he is a healer, and coincidentally his Chiron,
archetypally known as the Wounded Healer, is precisely on
the fateful North Node of the Titanic chart. The karmic,
perhaps magnetic power of the North Node is further
shown by progressions: DiCaprio's progressed Sun was
conjunct his own North Node as the Titanic was filmed and
released.
