NATO Shakes up the Geopolitical Chessboard

Last Friday the United Nations Security Council soundly rejected a Russian resolution demanding an immediate end to NATO air strikes in Yugoslavia. Conservative Russian strategists worry that NATO, which was originally created to withstand the Soviet bloc, has a grand plan aimed at world domination.

Astrologically, the these winds of change are represented by the tense confrontation between Saturn and Neptune, and the rapidly approaching square between Saturn and Uranus. Neptune in Aquarius represents the hope and vision (Neptune) for an equitable system of international relationships (Aquarius). Saturn might be seen as the enforcement agency, and the circumstances testing the international forces shaping the established order.

The United Nations wilted under the challenge of Saturn and Neptune last year (as these two planets were directly linked to the U.N. Sun). Unable to intervene in the Rwanda or Bosnian genocidal massacres, the United Nations proved itself to be too slow and too late to be effective during massive human rights violations. The United States co-opted the U.N. by not paying its $1.2 billion in back dues, and achieving its geopolitical objectives through the more pliable NATO alliance.

Saturn and Neptune complete their third and final square on April 6 by which time the crisis in Yugoslavia should reach a dramatic turning point. Saturn’s 30 year cycle in early Taurus has traditionally awakened America’s war machine because of its entry into the U.S. seventh house of Open Enemies. The additional factor of nebulous Neptune makes the strategic ends confusing and uncertain, and harkens back to Vietnam.

Saturn and Uranus Collide

The next outer planet confrontation is between Saturn and Uranus, which reaches its first of three squares on July 18, 1999. The zodiacal location where these two planets meet happens to hit key points in the horoscopes of the United States, Russia, and China.

The Russian horoscope (November 8, 1917; 2:12 am in Petrograd) is set for the Bolshevik Revolution. The collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 ends the Soviet Union horoscope set for 1922, but does not alter the creation of the first stable Russian government following the overthrow of the Czarist monarchy.

Russia’s chart features a dynamic configuration between the Sun in Scorpio, Saturn in Leo and Uranus in Aquarius. These three points are on target for the pending Saturn-Uranus square, indicating that Russia is due for some major reconstruction. The Bolshevik Revolution occurred one Uranus cycle ago, and its current weakened state resonates with the weakened state of the government just prior to Lenin’s rise.

One Uranus cycle ago the United States entered World War I, a war triggered by trouble in Serbia. Simultaneously the U.S. experienced a staggering flu epidemic. Some observers cite German biological warfare as the source of the lethal influenza virus. This viral invasion happened just as Uranus was entering the U.S. fourth house of domestic affairs. By this July Uranus will once again be entering the U.S. fourth house.

Slobodan Milosevic, The Wounded Master

Slobodan Milosevic, the child of a Christian Orthodox priest, maintained fierce resistance through last week’s NATO bombings. As the center of the political cyclone sweeping through the global village, Milosevic closed down all opposition media and grew in strength as the hope and personification of Serbian nationalism.

Milosevic was born with both his Sun, Moon and Mercury in proud, narcissistic Leo (on August 20, 1941). His Sun and Mercury are modulated and challenged by a dynamic Saturn-Uranus conjunction. When both the Sun and Mercury are under this kind of planetary stress, the worst megalomaniacal qualities of Leo can emerge. The Sun and Mercury in Leo square Saturn demonstrates mental stubbornness and fixations as a Lord-and-Master personality, while the square to Uranus makes him unpredictable and uncontrollable.

Milosevic’s powerful survival instinct can be seen in his Moon-Pluto-Chiron triple conjunction. Before embarking on his political path, Milosevic pursued a career in psychiatry, and this triple conjunction gives both an interest in the deepest motivations and wounds of the psyche, as well as a tendency to fall into its obsessions.

Chiron-Pluto-Moon gives a personal identification with generational influences, especially those derived from ethnic origins, and the feeling of being wounded due to the ancient conflicts. Hitler had a similar natal configuration with his Capricorn Moon opposite Chiron and inconjunct Pluto.

Chiron and Pluto form a conjunction about every 60 years. At the time of this current crisis, transiting Saturn and Neptune are activating Milosevic’s Moon-Pluto-Chiron. At the same time transiting Chiron and Pluto are beginning to approach their first conjunction since Milosevic’s era. They will be exactly conjunct on December 31, 1999.

* An unconfirmed birth time of 10 pm would place his Moon-Pluto-Chiron squaring a Taurus Ascendant. Reader feedback is welcome. Email: wolfstar3@aol.com.
