Campaign 2000: A Woman President?

As reported here last week, the Gender Wars have totally paralyzed Washington: the Republican Congress has passed only one piece of legislation so far this year (renaming the Washington National Airport to honor Ronald Reagan), and Clinton is retreating from his domestic troubles by traveling to Africa. As the men posture and strategize, the women are gathering strength for a political revolution: a woman for President in the year 2000 election.

The Moon in a political horoscope usually refers to the receptive, security-oriented nature of the people, but can also symbolize women in general. In the Scorpio Rising U.S. chart, the Moon is located at 25 degrees Aquarius. Bill Clinton’s Sun at 26 degrees Leo shows how he is astrologically tuned to favorably sway public opinion in spite of a long chain of scandals that would have toppled most any other politician.

One powerful forecasting tool used by astrologers is called progressions. By advancing the U.S. horoscope to the election year 2000 (according to the progression formula that one day equals one year), an amazing alignment appears: the progressed Sun will be right on the Aquarius Moon, an astrological occurrence that has never happened before. The Sun, representing political leadership, is aligning with the Moon, representing the nation’s women. The inevitable forecast is that we will see the first serious candidacy of a woman for President.

Juno, the Avenging Asteroid

President Clinton’s alleged episodes of sexual harassment has opened a national dialogue about power and gender in the workplace. Ironically, with all Clinton has done for the women’s movement, he would have been the perfect President to lead this dialogue, much as he initiated discussions on race relations.

Astrologically, the discussion is heating up under the influence of Saturn which is now activating the U.S. Chiron-Juno axis (at 20 degrees Aries-Libra). Following many months of retrograde motion, Saturn is returning to this degree zone which it last activated in July and August 1997. The issues prominent in the news then are returning now for closure.

Back in July and August 1997 the tobacco settlement was almost completed (Chiron is in the nation’s sixth house of public health, according to the Scorpio Rising horoscope for the U.S.*). Once again Congress is poised to regulate tobacco by imposing a large federal tax, and negotiating a global class action lawsuit.

The U.S. Chiron-Juno axis happens to be one of the most dangerous degree zones in the American horoscope. Last July recall that crazed killer Andrew Cunanan murdered fashion designer Gianni Versace precisely as Saturn turned retrograde right on the U.S. Chiron-Juno axis. Over the next ten days a similar line-up threatens to disrupt domestic tranquillity.

We have already seen the flare-up of the so-called Army of God terrorist group near Atlanta, which has targeted abortion clinics, gay bars, and the Olympics. Curiously, the terrifying tornado that touched down in Gainesville, GA last Friday (at 6:30 PM) occurred precisely as Juno was rising. Juno is the avenging asteroid associated with justice and women’s rights, but also referred to as the Storm Goddess.

Primary Colors’ John Travolta

When the anonymously written political novel Primary Colors first appeared, Washington was abuzz in speculation about which insider betrayed Clinton with this acrid satire. Now the movie version is out, and stars John Travolta, but the spin masters at the White House managed to water down the story’s toxic tone by appealing to Travolta’s devotion to Scientology.

John Travolta extends America’s love affair with Aquarian film stars (b. February 18, 1954; 2:53 PM; Englewood, NJ). His early successes with Grease and Saturday Night Fever highlight his sex appeal and dancing agility (reflecting his Venus in fancy-footwork Pisces, and energized by a restless, enthusiastic Mars in Sagittarius).

Travolta’s career went into a long decline in the 1980s,** but miraculously recovered with Look Who’s Talking, and then the spectacular Pulp Fiction. The Sun opposite Pluto astrologically describes this death and rebirth cycle, which can be so painful when in the disintegration cycle, but gloriously successful during the Comeback phase. Travolta’s Sun-Pluto axis fits right on Clinton’s Leo Sun and the USA Aquarius Moon.

Primary Colors may be Travolta’s most important role. During the filming transiting Pluto was crossing over his crusading Mars in Sagittarius (and he experienced a rare progressed new Moon right on his Aries Midheaven). The movie version highlights Clinton’s lofty idealism and clears him of moral corruption. Look for more on this story when Pluto returns to Travolta’s Mars this coming August.

** Travolta’s career follows like clockwork the Saturn cycle as first described by astrologer Grant Lewi.
