Arms Race in China

Chinese-American relations suddenly turned sour last week following a number of serious political and military developments. Economic problems, corruption, and growing domestic discontent has President Jiang Zemin and his government making disturbing nationalistic vibrations.

Hopeful Neptune at the moment is exactly on China's Aquarius Moon, giving the Chinese people an astrological window of opportunity to form a new political party. However, the ruling Communist Party has rounded up and imprisoned members of the fledgling Chinese Democratic Party to nip this movement in the bud. The recently upgraded U.S. Senate voted 99-0 to warn China about its deteriorating human rights violations.

Meanwhile American military strategists are considering their options as China has begun amassing missiles off the coast of Taiwan. China's aggressive Mars-Pluto conjunction in proud Leo describes the Chinese military as being a superior force within the government hierarchy. Over the next two weeks Uranus (the planet of crisis and sudden, unexpected events) opposes China's Mars, perhaps demonstrating one of Mao's favorite sayings: "A single spark can start a prairie fire."

Throughout 1999, China's Mars and Pluto come under direct planetary assault from transiting Saturn and Uranus, which is bound to put enormous political pressure on the military to act forcefully. One of the most worrisome alignments takes place on the tenth anniversary of the student massacre in Beijing when instigator Mars turns direct on June 4, 1999.

Incident Over Trumbull County

Last week talkshow host Art Bell featured extended excerpts from a 9-1-1 audio tape detailing a widely viewed UFO sighting over Trumbull County, Ohio. The incident was reported by many alarmed eyewitnesses, including the Trumbull County Sheriff's Department which had engaged in an intense, late night vehicular pursuit of a "red, saucer-shaped object."

Astrologically, the date of this UFO incident reveals direct links to the U.S. Pentagon. On December 14, 1994 when many witnesses saw this UFO over Trumbull County, the Sun and Mercury were opposing the U.S. Mars, which represents the American military. Also, transiting Uranus at the time of the sighting was exactly opposite the U.S. Mercury, and very near the U.S. Pluto. This activated axis in military jargon refers to secrecy for national security reasons.

The Pentagon's horoscope is also highly activated during December 14, 1994. The incident's Uranus-Neptune conjunction is very closely challenging natal Pentagon planets, with Neptune opposite the important tenth house Venus, and Uranus inconjunct natal Uranus. Plus, this Uranus-Neptune conjunction was passing through the fourth house, reflecting high-tech (Uranus) and mysterious forces (Neptune) intruding (hard aspects) into the American homeland (fourth house).

Ever since the 1947 UFO Crash near Roswell, New Mexico, Ufologists have debated and pondered about the Pentagon's involvement with extra-terrestrial intelligence. Trumbull County is near one of the biggest radar/air defense installations in the country.

Pluto in the Pentagon's chart represents the Keeper of the Secrets. In 1999 the Great Awakener Uranus opposes this Pentagon Pluto, perhaps revealing why the Pentagon was formed only two weeks after the Roswell Incident, the location at the time of the world's only nuclear bombardier wing.

Gene Siskel Rates Thumbs Up

Viewers of the popular TV show Siskel & Ebert were told on February 3 that Gene Siskel was taking a leave of absence to recover from brain surgery, but Siskel died last week of complications. The widely respected partnership has been praised for taking film criticism to the mainstream, as "The average person would look toward them about whether to take their hard earned dollars to the box office."

Gene Siskel was born an imaginative and cerebral Aquarian (January 26, 1946), with his Moon in controlling, righteous Scorpio. This Sun-Moon combination places a premium on the unique personality, with the need to be right, self-sufficient, and in control, or in other words, just the character traits a film critic needs to make his mark. Other celebrities with the Aquarius Sun and Scorpio Moon reflect the highly individualized, in command personality: Zsa Zsa Gabor, Arsenio Hall, and Cybill Shepherd.

Siskel's Sun-Venus conjunction in Aquarius gives him a highly sociable, diplomatic personality, with a strong artistic awareness, especially in avant-garde, culturally progressive art forms. With Neptune, the ruler of film, in a harmonious trine to his Sun-Venus conjunction, being a film critic is a natural expression of his planetary blueprint.

Siskel's Sun-Venus is opposed to Pluto, a dynamic which attracts intense competition, even open enemies. Siskel's partnership with Roger Ebert provided a structured format to vent opposing views. This planetary axis involving the life-or-death Pluto gave rise to the "thumbs-up" or "thumbs-down" trademark which could make or break newly released movies.
