Kofi Annan Breaks Deadlock

U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan negotiated a last-minute deal with Iraq which now seems likely to avert a bombing raid from the U.S. military. Annan waited until he had the full backing of the Security Council before arriving in Baghdad. He was bolstered by sharp public attacks against Clinton’s foreign policy team, as well as massive public rallies throughout the Middle East.

The successful negotiation was announced during a triple conjunction in Pisces involving the Sun, Mercury, and Jupiter. Sun-Jupiter contacts typically usher in a brief climate of optimism and confidence, a celestial condition that the Secretary-General took full advantage of to resolve this crisis.

Still, a powerful element within the American intelligence community would just as soon “remove” Saddam Hussein, regardless of diplomatic developments. The CIA, NSA, DIA, and other spy agencies have spent an estimated $100 billion since 1992 in covert operations directed toward fomenting revolution and installing an opposition government in Iraq.

Last week former CIA director Richard Helms openly called for Saddam’s assassination. Over the coming week the Sun moves ahead of its beneficial contact with Jupiter to form a dangerous square with Pluto during the Solar Eclipse on February 26. This formation presents a potential window of intervention for the most cut-throat operatives.

The Solar Eclipse in Pisces is being recognized by metaphysical and religious groups across our global community as an opportune time to meditate and pray for world peace. For more information on the recent eclipse check out Stories from the Path of Totality.

Saturn Revives the United Nations

Kofi Annan’s diplomatic efforts took place as transiting Saturn was exactly on his Aries Sun. Annan, born on April 8, 1938, assumed the responsibility (Saturn) for taking initiative (Aries Sun) to resolve this international crisis. His efforts have vaulted not only his own stature, but the United Nations as well.

The U.N. came into existence on October 24, 1945 (at 4:45 PM in Washington D.C.) when the Soviet Union submitted its ratification documents. The U.N. is often stymied by conflicting security strategies (Mars-Saturn in Cancer, square Ascendant), and for the past few years has floundered with little international clout. This phase corresponded with Saturn, the planet of authority and power, traveling through the U.N.’s twelfth house of obscurity.

Now Saturn is about to emerge from the twelfth house, and will undoubtedly bring the United Nations a resurgence of popularity and recognition as a primary geopolitical player. The U.N. has three planets in diplomatic Libra (plus Juno and Chiron), and is currently benefited by a progressed Juno right on the U.N. Descendant.

Over the coming year, the United Nation’s Scorpio Sun will be dynamically activated by both Saturn and Neptune. These two outer planets work simultaneously to define and camouflage the U.N. relationship with the U.S. government. The U.S. effectively selected Annan through threat of withholding its U.N. dues. In some quarters the United Nations and the United States are seen as the Good Cop-Bad Cop team to pressure rogue nations.

Loveaholic Drew Barrymore

Last week’s surprise movie hit was the sweet romantic comedy “The Wedding Singer,” co-starring a flat-faced Adam Sandler and the perky Drew Barrymore. Barrymore, who first hit stardom at age 6 as E.T.’s best friend, went on to wallow in drugs and alcohol by age 13. Now she’s reformed, grown up to be what she calls a “loveaholic.”

Drew Barrymore was born on February 22, 1975 (at 11:51 AM in Culver City CA). With her Sun in misty-eyed Pisces squaring otherworldly Neptune, Barrymore had to deal with drugs at an early age. Her commercial worth is directly connected to her legendary Barrymore name, and is astrologically encoded in the Moon-Saturn conjunction in the family sign of Cancer (located in her second house of money).

Barrymore’s chart shows a shrewd intelligence which is concealed by her wacky, bubbly personality (Sun conjunct Pallas Athene, Mercury in Aquarius, trine Pluto). Her success can be attributed to her own talent for picking roles that reflect popular trends. Her current achievement can be attributed to Jupiter, which is conjunct her Sun on her birthday. And now, being a loveaholic is an easy expression of her Venus in Pisces, a placement which meets everyone with sympathy, kindness, and friendliness.

The Wedding Singer” arrived in theaters as transiting Saturn conjoined Barrymore’s Juno, the asteroid which governs committed relationships and marriage. Saturn instills a realistic view to Juno, and Barrymore’s current two year relationship is likely undergoing a great deal of pressure. Saturn to Juno connections tend to either tie the proverbial knot, or split up.
